About a week before Christmas every year the Queen invites extended Royal Family members including Zara and Mike and Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge for a festive lunch in London.
This royal get together is one of the precious family occasions when Kate and William’s children – Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, six, get to spend time with their cousins – Lena and Mia.
However, the coronavirus pandemic makes the festive meet-up highly unlikely for several reasons this year.
The first is that while England is due to leave lockdown on December 2, it is not yet clear what restrictions will remain in place following that date.

There is a high chance that there will still be a cap on the number of people allowed to socialise together until the New Year.
This means a large family meet-up could breach Government guidance.
Another reason the Buckingham Palace lunch might not go-ahead is that the Queen is currently based at Windsor Castle.
The decision was made to switch her administrative base away from Buckingham Palace following the first lockdown as she was deemed to be safer out of London.

There is a slim chance the Queen and Philip could host a handful of guests for a lunch ahead of Christmas but this remains to be seen.
How will Zara and her family spend Christmas?
Zara, Mike, Lena and Mia live on the Gatcombe Park estate a stone’s throw away from Zara’s mother Princess Anne.
Zara’s brother Peter Phillips, his two daughters Isla and Savannah and estranged wife Autumn Phillips also live nearby.
While Princess Anne may have hoped to welcome both her children and their families to Christmas, the pandemic may make this impossible.
In order to get around any potential cap in the number of people she may be able to host for Christmas lunch, Anne may ask her children to visit her one at a time.
Savannah and Isla are close to their cousin Mia and often enjoy playdates together.
Last year Zara revealed that Mia was taking riding lessons with her big cousins.

How Zara and Princess Anne can still see each other despite lockdown
While the new lockdown discourages socialising between households, outdoor exercise, including horse riding, with one other person is still permitted.
Zara and Anne are both keen horsewomen and celebrated equestrians.
The mother and daughter may be able to spend time together by going for horse rides during lockdown.
