Zara Tindall may be the granddaughter of the Queen and Prince Philip, but she enjoys a much quieter life than others in the family. Unlike some of her royal relatives, Zara had a fairly small wedding when she married Mike Tindall, 42.
She first met her union rugby league player husband nearly 20 years ago, in 2003.
Seven years later, their engagement was announced in a statement which came from Buckingham Palace.
The statement said: “The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Zara Phillips to Mr Mike Tindall, son of Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall.”
When Zara was born, she was not given an official Her Royal Highness title which means she has stayed out of the limelight more than her royal cousins.
While others in her family have had lavish ceremonies with thousands of guests, Zara was also more private in her wedding.
The couple tied the knot in front of 400 guests on July 30, 2011. The ceremony was held at the Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland.
She wore a design by Stewart Parvin which had a pleated bodice and a drop waistline.
The stunning ring featured a central diamond and could be worth a huge sum of money, Lorna Haddon, head of diamonds and jewellery at Beaverbrooks explained.
The expert told Express.co.uk: “Zara’s engagement ring features a stunning split band covered in pave diamonds, with a large brilliant-cut diamond at its centre.
“The shape of the split shank frames the central diamond beautifully.”
The expert added: “I’d estimate the ring’s value to be around the £30,000 mark.”
Not only was the ring stunning to look at, there could have been a sweet reason why Mike chose the specific jewel.
This could be down to Zara’s career as an equestrian and former Olympian, the expert claimed.
She stated: “As Zara is an Olympic equestrian rider and big sports fan, Mike’s choice was practical as well as beautiful, with a low-sitting diamond.”
Since their wedding, Zara and Mike have become the parents of two children.
Mia Grace Tindall, seven, was born in 2014, and the couple welcomed Lena Elizabeth Tindall, two, in 2018.
In December 2020, the couple announced they were expecting their third child.
Mike made the announcement on his podcast where he revealed they had just had their 12 week scan.
The royal line of succession – who outranks who?
The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.
It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.
Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.
Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.
The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.
Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.
Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
