‘You have insulted Her Majesty!’ Radio host rages at Khan over Queen statue rejection

The Mayor of London has been lambasted by journalist James Whale for snubbing plans to erect a statue of Queen Elizabeth II.

“Anytime you want to come on TalkTV, come on it. You never agree to. Is that because you’re scared?

“You have insulted Her Majesty as far as I’m concerned.

“People wanted to have her on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

“She should be there and if a modern artist wants to do a new rendition of Her Majesty, so long as it is respectful it should be there.

“Sadiq Khan, you don’t even believe in the monarchy, yet you went to her funeral. You are two-faced! I don’t know why anybody would vote you in to be the mayor of our capital city.”

A spokesperson for Mr Khan said: “The fourth plinth will continue to showcase new works by world-class artists for the foreseeable future.

“There are planned fourth plinth exhibits for the next four years.

“Samson Kambalu’s new commission, unveiled today, Antelope, will be in situ until September 2024.”

It comes as calls for the Queen’s statue were met with cries of support in the House of Commons.

Shouts of “hear, hear” were heard from some MPs in the chamber after Conservative former minister Sir John Hayes floated the idea to commemorate Elizabeth II, who died aged 96 on September 8.

Heather Phillipson’s The End monument – featuring a whirl of whipped cream topped with a cherry, a drone, and a fly – is among the artworks to have been housed on the Fourth Plinth at the London landmark.

“So that mood is marked forever and remembrance can last for generations to come, a fitting national memorial needs to be established.

“Will the Leader of the House therefore agree with me that a statement be brought to this House on what form that memorial might take?

“For me, a statue on the final plinth on Trafalgar Square would be ideal.”
