Camilla WILL become Queen says Royal Butler – and THIS is why
THE Duchess of Cornwall WILL become the Queen when Elizabeth II dies, a Royal Butler has told Daily Star Online.
When the Queen passes away, Prince Charles – husband of Camilla Parker Bowles – is next in-line to take the throne as King of England.
But the question mark of whether the Duchess of Cornwall will take the title of Queen has long hovered over Buckingham Palace – until now.
At her wedding to Charles she expressed her wish to be Princess Consort instead, and showed no desire to become “Queen Camilla”.
Yet after years of pleading from Prince Charles – who is desperate for her to become Queen – she has given in.
“Does she want to do it (be Queen)? No”
A Royal Butler, who has worked for the Royal Family for more than a decade, told Daily Star Online: “Does she want to do it (be Queen)? No.
“But she loves him, so obviously she’s going to end up having to for him.”
The procedure behind handing the role of Queen to Camilla will lie with Charles, who will implement her final decision.
Should she decide to be Princess Consort instead, he will be tasked – in the role of King – with handing her that title.
The butler added the decision not only lies with Charles, though, and that it boils down to the public’s opinion of Camilla which will influence the final decision.
A poll in 2015 found 55 per cent of Britons still believed she should not become Queen.
The numbers were a clear indication that much of the public preferred Princess Diana, who died in a horror car crash in Paris in 1997, aged 36.
But the Royal Butler believes public perception is changing.
He said: “I think the public opinion has moved now, they’ve accepted her.
“I know her really well – she’s so lovely and honest.
“There’s no glamour about her and she’s very nervous I admit that. She knows there can be a fine line with what happened with Diana.
“I know Prince Charles really does want her to become Queen. He has even got an operation underway to try and get her to be Queen!
“At the end of the day it comes down to the public opinion, and the Prince is hoping it comes towards to her.
“I know the Prince, he usually gets what he wants!”
Camilla has cemented her place in the Royal Family in recent years and the Queen even elevated her to the Privy Council in June 2016.
The Queen’s promotion of Camilla was seen by many as signal that her son and heir intends to make her Queen Camilla.
Before their marriage in 2005, Clarence House indicated that Camilla she had no desire for the role and wanted to be known as Princess Consort.
The official wedding announcement said: “It is intended that Mrs Parker Bowles should use the title HRH the Princess Consort when the Prince of Wales accedes to the throne.”
But Clarence House appears to have backtracked since then and now declines to comment on what Camilla’s title will be once Charles is King.
