‘Words stood out to Harry & Meghan’ Omid Scobie hits out at Palace over silence on racism

OMID SCOBIE has claimed “words stood out” to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in the Queen’s statement after allegations were made against the Royal Family.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used their March interview with Oprah Winfrey to make a series of explosive allegations against the Royal Family, accusing an unnamed royal – not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh – of racism. The Queen later responded to the claims with a statement that said “recollections may vary.” Royal commentator Omid Scobie has claimed in an updated version of Finding Freedom that these words “stood out” to the royal couple. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not involved in Mr Scobie’s unauthorised biography and have distanced themselves from the book.

“The show aired and it was like a day and a half went by.

“We were told by a Palace aide it that it was to gauge the mood of the nation before they actually put pen to paper.

“Also for people within the family to actually see the show itself, the interview.

“I think as we say in the update of the book, that phrase ‘recollections may vary’ which is firstly not the Queen saying that.

“It’s actually having spoken to people within the family, within the institution and they’re the ones saying, ‘that’s not how we remember it’.

“She’s kind of the messenger in that case but unfortunately those were words that stood out to the couple because it didn’t take full ownership of something potentially grotesque that took place.”

It comes as the Duchess of Sussex’s half-brother has taken a swipe at his famous sibling ahead of his appearance in the Australian version of Big Brother, describing her as “shallow”.

Thomas Markle junior criticised his sibling in a trailer for the reality show and also gave her husband Harry some advice, telling the duke “she’s going to ruin your life”.

According to reports Big Brother VIP, which is being filmed in Sydney and yet to be screened, has lost two of its biggest contestants, transgender star Caitlyn Jenner and Donald Trump’s former political aide Omarosa Manigault Newman.

Mr Markle has reportedly not seen his half-sister in around a decade and, along with Meghan’s father Thomas Markle, is not thought to have met Harry.

Meghan and her half-brother have the same father but she has a different mother, Doria Ragland.

“I’m the biggest brother of them all.”

He goes on to say: “I told Prince Harry, I think she’s going to ruin your life.

“She’s very shallow.”

The duchess has a fraught relationship with her extended family and has been estranged from her father for a number of years.

Meghan’s half sister Samantha Grant, also known as Samantha Markle, has see-sawed between condemning and praising her famous relative and once described her as a “shallow social climber”.
