Meghan Markle ‘could have TWO royal wedding dresses’ following in the footsteps of Kate
Meghan Markle could follow the example of Kate Middleton and opt to have two wedding dresses, a bridal expert said as speculation mounts on the bride final royal wedding design.
Kate wore a stunning lace wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of the luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen, for the main ceremony in Westminster Abbey when she married Prince William in 2011.
Following the ceremony, the Duchess of Cambridge changed into another gorgeous white satin gown by the same designer with a diamonte belt for an intimate meal at Buckingham Palace in the evening.
And it is believed that Meghan Markle could do the same when she marries Prince Harry on May 19 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Emma Boycott, the owner of luxury wedding dress designs Maria Modes, told the Express.co.uk: “Royal wedding dresses all have one thing in common: They suit the grandness of the occasion, and the venue.
“I do think it’s likely that she will follow in Kate’s footsteps and have a second wedding dress for the private celebrations later in the day.
“This will allow her to relax and wear something that is truly her.
“Although Meghan’s style is somewhat paired down and relaxed her wedding dress will have to hold it’s own against the backdrop of Windsor Castle and next to Harry in his military uniform.
“Meghan also has to take into account past royal wedding dress designs, most notably Kate Middleton’s, our future Queen, who she wouldn’t want to look like she was emulating or over staging so she will be mindful of ensuring her design is not too similar or as grand.”
Kensington Palace previously confirmed that Harry’s father Prince Charles will “will give a private evening reception for the couple and their close friends and family”.
As for speculation about the wedding dress that Meghan will wear when she walks down the aisle in St George’s Chapel, the consensus is among bridal experts is that she will choose something “boldly simple” with a touch of classical.
Siobhan Mulholland-Cox, from Cambridge Vintage Bridal, believes Meghan could take inspiration the Queen ’s sister the late Princess Margaret, who was known for pushing the boundaries, with “an essence of old Hollywood in her choice somewhere”.
Ms Mulholland-Cox told the Express.co.uk: “I’d refer to Meghan’s look as ‘boldly simple’ and I think this will be her own personal brief for her wedding gown.

“If Meghan has been studying the Royal Wedding archives, I’d imagine she loves the late Princess Margaret’s wedding dress – yes, it’s of an era but it is still so timeless and breathtaking.
“I doubt she will go with such a full skirt and maybe the length of her dress will surprise us too.”
British luxury wedding dress designer, Caroline Arthur also told the Express.co.uk: “She has taken beautifully to her new Royal role, embracing the higher necklines and lower hemlines required, whilst still looking effortlessly stylish.
“Given the ease with which she has made this shift from her earlier years as a style icon and actress, I think she will undoubtedly look to incorporate the influence of royal wedding dresses in the past…But is likely to do this her own way.”
Express has contacted Kensington Palace for comment.
