What is causing Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s ‘EXTRAORDINARILY tense’ Royal rift?
MEGHAN MARKLE and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, are “very different” people who have been thrust into the whirlwind of British Royal Family life – and rumours abound the Duchesses do not get on.
Prince William, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have been living together in Kensington Palace in London. The Royal power couples – known as the “Fab Four” – have come under scrutiny of late, amid speculation of a so-called rift between them. The reasons for the tension are allegedly because of Meghan driving a wedge between Harry and William.
Insiders have described the relationship between the Royal couples as “extraordinarily tense”, with the Princes’ strained relationship a key reason for the friction.
Of the Royal brothers, a Royal insider told the Sun: “They have had quite a few arguments.
“This is about Harry pulling away from his brother.”
The Princes are extremely close.
Harry often tagged along to Royal engagements with William and his sister-in-law before Meghan come onto the scene.
It was suggested Harry was frustrated his brother had not “rolled out the red carpet” for the Duchess of Sussex and welcomed her more enthusiastically into the Royal fold.
But Prince Charles, who is said to be “completely taken” with his new daughter-in-law, stepped in and the feud was soon resolved.
But Harry and Meghan are moving 25 miles away from Kate and William to start lives together at Frogmore – a 33-acre estate in the grounds of Windsor Castle’s Home Park.
With Kate, a typical English Rose – hailing from the Home Counties – and Meghan, a former Hollywood actress, the two women are unlikely to have much in common.
The lack of common ground between the Duchesses may also explain their choice to lead very separate lives.
A source said: “They try their best to get along but they are two people from wildly different places, so it is perhaps inevitable that they will rub each other up the wrong way.”
Kate is accustomed to towing the Royal Family line and Meghan, used to the glitzy world of showbiz, is more prone to speak her mind.
The former suits actress is said to “snap”, bombarding Royal staff with 5am emails.
And a “stressful” bridesmaids’ dress fitting for Princess Charlotte ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding reportedly left Kate in tears.
After the ordeal, Meghan was asked to choose a tiara from the Royal collection for her big day.
When the Duchess chose one with sparkling emeralds, she was told she would have to select another.
Prince Harry backed her original choice, even raising his voice to staff, saying: “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”
The Queen was forced to step in and put her grandson in his place.
The move to Frogmore may give the Fab Four and “Royal Sisterhood” some much-needed time apart ahead of their Christmas celebrations this year.
Kensington Palace said: “Windsor is a very special place for their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.”
