“Next year, William coming to USA like a king”, they added.
Another user praised the future king for his role representing Britain, saying: “You know it’s a good day when both the Cambridges have engagements.
“They are always representing the Crown and their country in the best possible way.”
A third tweeted: “Just picturing it now how many celebs and politicians will want to be part of #Earthshot next year in the US.”
There was an outpouring of excitement on social media
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been based in the US since their royal step down
The Prince announced that the US would be next to host the awards during his speech at the inaugural Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony last weekend.
He said: “I hope you agree that London and the U.K. has put on quite a show for our first year.
“So for the second year, we need to pass the baton to a country whose leadership is essential for all five of our Earthshots.
“Where better than the nation that inspired the moonshot all those years ago.
The Prince announced that the U.S. would be hosting the awards next year
The Duchess of Cambridge was joined by Emma Watson to hand out the awards
“I’m delighted to announce that the Earthshot Prize will be heading to the United States of America in 2022.”
No guests were flown in for the UK Earthshot awards ceremony, in order to keep the event as eco-friendly as possible, therefore it is likely that the US ceremony would form part of a royal tour.
The Palace is yet to confirm where in the US the ceremony would be held.
US fans reacted to the news when a recent poll found Meghan and Harry’s popularity has been waning.
Last month a YouGov poll found 63 percent of US respondents viewed Kate very or somewhat favourably, as opposed to Meghan, who only claimed 57 percent on the same front.
Meanwhile, Prince William notched up 66 percent, surpassing Harry on 62 percent.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last visited the United States on a trip to New York in December 2014, when the Duchess was pregnant with Princess Charlotte.
They also previously visited California at the end of a tour to Canada in 2011.
Prince William said he hoped the prize would ‘stimulate solutions’
Last weekend’s Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, in North London, saw a number of high profile celebrities attend.
The Earthshot Prize is an ambitious environmental program aimed at finding new ideas and technologies around the world to tackle the climate crisis.
The £50million initiative aims to provide at least 50 solutions to the world’s biggest environmental problems by 2030, by awarding five, £1million prizes each year for the next ten years.
The Duchess of Cambridge was joined by Emma Watson, Emma Thompson and David Oyelowo to hand out the awards.
Prince William told BBC Newscast that he hoped the prize would “stimulate solutions and action that a lot of people haven’t necessarily produced yet.”
“I’m hoping, you know, the prize will galvanise a lot of people in positions of responsibility to, you know, go further, bigger and actually start to deliver.
“I want the things that I’ve enjoyed – the outdoor life, nature, the environment – I want that to be there for my children, and not just my children but everyone else’s children.
“If we’re not careful we’re robbing from our children’s future through what we do now. And I think that’s not fair.”
