Kate and William’s EU charm offensive: The REAL reason couple will visit Sweden and Norway
KATE, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William will visit Scandinavian countries, Sweden and Norway, at the end of this month, where they hope to drum up support for the UK as Brexit talks continue.
The Royal couple will start their four-day charm offensive at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and officials hope their popularity abroad will strengthen Britain’s hand in negotiations.
As Britain prepares to leave the EU, the royal family have frequently and repeatedly visited Europe.
Richard Fitzwilliams, the royal expert, told Express: “This is part of the royal family’s goodwill trips to European countries after the Brexit vote.
“These trips are a skillful exercise in soft power.”
This is the first time Kate and Prince William, who are expecting their third child in April, will visit Sweden and Norway, where they will be hosted by the local royal families.
The tour comes after visits to Poland and Germany last year with their young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who will not accompany them on the Euro jaunt this time.
Just months before, the couple visited Paris – the first time William has been on a royal duty in the city since his mother, Princess Diana, died in a car crash there.
The Scandinavian tour will take place between January and February 2.

The royal couple was due to visit the two Scandinavian countries last year, but it was postponed due to the pregnant Duchess suffering from acute morning sickness.
With Kate due to give birth to her third child in just three months, Mr. Fitzwilliams, said it is hard to predict when she is likely to slow down.
The 36-year-old duchess was busy in London on Wednesday when she visited Great Ormond Street Hospital and a school in Mitcham.
Mr. Fitzwilliams said: “Kate suffers from acute morning sickness and is doing what she feels able to.
“We don’t know how it will affect her future engagements as this debilitating condition is unpredictable, sometimes easing as the pregnancy progresses.”
William’s father Prince Charles and wife Camilla have also been involved in the European charm offensive after Brexit.
Last year, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall set out on a nine-day visit to Romania, Italy, and Austria.
