Prince Harry is keeping the memory of his late mother alive by inviting her entire family to the royal wedding.
The groom-to-be, 33, is close to Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes, and their children, and wants them all to be part of the celebrations at Windsor Castle on May 19.
His cousins, including Dolce & Gabbana model Lady Kitty Spencer, have also nabbed the ‘golden ticket’ to the intimate all-night after-party at Frogmore House, which will be attended by just 200 guests, according to Katie Nichols for Vanity Fair.
‘Harry has always kept in close touch with the Spencers and they have all received invitations,’ a family friend told the publication.
‘Harry gets on well with his aunts and uncle and they have met Meghan. His cousins all have the golden ticket—an invite to the ceremony and reception and the evening party.’
St George’s Chapel has a capacity of 800 but Harry and Meghan, 36, have decided to invite just 600 guests to the wedding and reception.
In a surprise move, there are no invitations for the Prime Minister, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn or any foreign heads of state.
The omission of Commonwealth leaders is particularly surprising as they may see it as a snub.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘This is very much about them getting married surrounded by their families and friends.
‘It is not a big state occasion in any way. It is an intimate family wedding. Well, as intimate as a royal wedding can be.’
Despite the wedding being an important national occasion, Harry is not in the direct line of succession – unlike his elder brother, Prince William, who had no choice but to invite dozens of politicians and Commonwealth representatives to his 2011 Westminster Abbey nuptials.
Harry is currently fifth in line to the throne, but after the birth of his third niece or nephew later this month, will slip to sixth, behind the Cambridges’ three children.
Prince Harry and Miss Markle have also chosen a much smaller venue than William and Kate, who were able to fit around 1,200 guests into Westminster Abbey, including then-Prime Minister David Cameron.
The couple confirmed that all 600 of the guests at the Chapel will all have a direct relationship with either Meghan or Harry.
Kensington Palace announced in March that 1,200 members of the public would also be among the crowds allowed into the grounds of Windsor Castle to share in the atmosphere on the day.
