Express co UK conducted an exclusive poll asking readers if Prince Harry’s wife should be allowed to use her royal title to sell her book, The Bench, which explores the bond between a father and his young son.
Ninety-eight percent (27,228) people said Meghan should not be allowed to have the title printed on the book.
Just two percent (478) said no while only 60 people (less than one percent) said they didn’t know.
In comments, many readers expressed their outrage at having to watch the former royal profit from the title the Queen bestowed on her when she married Harry, 36.
The Queen has been told to order the removal of Meghan’s royal title from her book.
The Queen has been urged to strip Meghan and Harry of their titles
A year on from Megxit and two months after the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah was aired, many royal watchers said it is high time the Queen put her foot down and removed Harry and Meghan’s titles.
One reader said Meghan had “crossed a proverbial red line” by using her title to promote herself as an up-and-coming author, and added: “The question now is will Queen Elizabeth take action.”
Others said the duchess should not be allowed to use the title for financial gain because her circumstances have changed dramatically since she was given the honour in May 2018.
One reader wrote: “She shouldn’t be able to use her title for anything, the time it was removed.”
A second said: “You want to be free of the Royal Family? Drop your royal title, simple.”
And yet a third said: “About time Liz got firm on this – remove their titles NOW!”
A fourth person said the monarch “should put her foot down” once and for all and remove the title from Meghan.
One person even suggested that by doing nothing the royals appear “weak” to the outside world.
They said: “Enough already, strip her and Harry of their titles.
“The Royal Family are coming across as weak to me. Show some power as they are making them look foolish now.”
Another reader said: “Buckingham Palace lawyers should contact the publishers and ask them to remove Duchess from the title.”
Meghan’s book is due to be released on June 8.
The duchess, who is expecting her second child, said she felt inspired to write the book after penning a poem for Harry for Father’s Day.
The book focuses on the special bond between a father and son – as seen through a mother’s eyes, Puffin, an imprint of Penguin Random House Children’s UK announced.
Meghan said: “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born.
“My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the make-up, as much as it does with mine.”
The poll ran from 7.35am on May 4 to 8.35pm on May 5, with a total of 27,766 readers taking part.
