The One Thing Prince William and Kate Middleton Ban from Their Home Plus, Princess Charlotte’s current favorite toys

In the wake of their quite successful tour of Poland and Germany, William, Kate, George, and Charlotte are getting the full cover-story treatment in Us Weekly this week, as the magazine promises a look “inside their private lives.”

(There is a grabby “PLUS Kate’s plans for baby No. 3!” tease on the cover as well, which we will get to later.)

The preview of the story offers up a variety of tidbits about what life with the Cambridges is purportedly like (can you imagine a Keeping Up with the Kardashians-style Catching Up with the Cambridges reality show?! James Middleton would definitely function as the Scott Disick). Per Us’s sources, Kate and William’s focus continues to be on making things as “normal” as possible for two children growing up in decidedly non-normal circumstances. As such—make sure you are sitting down in a comfortable position for these dramatic revelations—George is said to “love anything on wheels” and Charlotte is a fan of Disney princesses. And there is obviously some inherent amusement in the fact that Charlotte enjoys the fantasy-world princesses. “I don’t think it’s quite dawned on her that she’s a princess herself,” a family friend told the magazine.

The two children are not spoiled either, from the sounds of the report.

iPads are banned from the home, as a source explains, “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children . . . As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination. They’re very much a normal family.”

You know, just a normal family, like any other, who happens to have Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stop by for tea on a random weekday, or who is greeted with a hundred photographers on a trip to the supermarket (the latter being a hypothetical example, of course, since this crew is long past the point that they can comfortably make Whole Foods runs).

George is apparently starting to catch on to the fact that his existence is not quite the same as it is for every four-year-old.

The Us source notes George is “at an age where he’s starting to realize that the world he lives in is different to his friends.” When George goes biking with William, he has a lot to ask him. “He’s full of questions and curiosity about everything around him . . . He’s growing up to be a very confident young boy.” Meanwhile, Charlotte is latched onto Kate, per Us’s sources. “Wherever Kate goes, so does Charlotte.” And when Kate or the housekeeper are preparing meals in the kitchen, Charlotte will set up shop next to them, “her own toy set by her side to imitate.”
