Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton had completely different wedding days, but there were subtle similarities between the two.
Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge married Prince William in April 2011, while Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex married Prince Harry in May 2018.

While the royal weddings couldn’t have been more different with Meghan and Harry’s ceremony taking place at Windsor Castle, while Kate and William’s was at Westminster Abbey, there were many subtle similarities between the two, mainly in the bridal attire.
Both the Duchesses changed from their stunning bridal gowns to bespoke designer dresses for their evening receptions, and both Meghan and Kate honoured the late Princess Diana – the mother of their husbands – during their ceremonies.
Here’s a closer look at the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding days…

Meghan and Kate’s bridal gowns
The Duchess of Sussex opted for a white dress with a bateau neckline from Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.

It epitomised a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic House of Givenchy, but while the dress was understated the veil was not, featuring the flora of all 53 Commonwealth countries and boasting five metres of silk tulle.
Meanwhile, Kate’s wedding dress featured delicate lace sleeves and a surprising v-neck from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
The dress had a 2.7 metre train, while the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a more simple veil than Meghan’s.

The stunning number was halterneck and hugged at Meghan’s svelte figure.
Kate also switched dresses but stuck to the same designer, wearing another number from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
It was made from ivory satin, had a sweetheart neckline and featured a diamante belt. The Duchess finished the look off with a cream cardigan.
Meghan and Kate’s ‘something borrowed’ tiaras from the Queen
The Queen gifted Meghan the Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara for her wedding, the headpiece is English and was made in 1932, with the entre brooch dating from 1893.
According to reports, the number was last worn and seen in public in 1965 when Princess Margaret wore it.

The Duchess of Cambridge on the other hand was lent the Cartier halo tiara, which the Queen received on her 18th birthday, but her father King George VI initially purchased the piece for his wife.
The Cartier halo tiara included nearly 1,000 diamonds.
Meghan and Kate’s rings from the late Princess Diana
The Duchess of Sussex was spotted leaving for her evening reception with the late Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring on her right hand.

It’s thought Prince Harry gifted the ring to her after Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his mother’s royal blue sapphire engagement ring.

The ring is made up of 14 solitaire diamonds surrounding a 12-carat oval, and is valued at £300,000.
