Schoolgirl left ‘speechless’ after being invited to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
A pupil at Nottingham Academy was left ‘speechless’ after being invited to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Leonora Ncomanzi already has her dress ready for the ceremony, which will take place in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19.
The 13-year-old, who is a member of Full Effect, which is supported by the Royal couple, met Prince Harry and Ms Markle during their first official engagement together.
The couple visited Nottingham Academy, in Mapperley, during their trip to Nottingham on December 1 last year.
During that visit, Ms Markle spoke to Leonora about her involvement with the Full Effect programme and promised her a private visit to the academy, which she honoured earlier this year.
Leonora, who aspires to be an actress like Ms Markle, is looking forward to the big day.
She said: “When I found out that I was invited to the wedding, I was speechless. I am so excited. When my mum was told I was invited she screamed for five minutes.
“Meghan is such an inspiration to me – the first time I met her I asked her if she had any advice for me as I want to be an actress like her.
“She said I should always be prepared to face rejection but to keep following my dreams. I can’t wait to see what she is wearing on the day. I have already bought my dress too.”
Leonora will attend the wedding with Helen Foulger, deputy principal of Nottingham Academy’s Ransom Road campus.
She said: “It is an absolute honour to be invited to such a prestigious event. I am naturally very excited that I will share this experience with Leonora.
“His Royal Highness and Ms Markle has built a very special relationship with the Nottingham community and with our academy.”
Henry Kulaya, principal of the Ransom Road campus, added: “The work the Royal Foundation supports in developing community mentors has really made a huge impact on many of our young people, and we are all so excited that our academy will be represented at the wedding.”
Sir John Peace, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, nominated six people from Nottinghamshire to attend the wedding after the couple opened up the ceremony to young people who have “shown strong leadership” in their communities.
Those nominated from Nottinghamshire have all been involved in projects supported by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry – Coach Core and Full Effect.
Sir John said: “It was an honour to select six individuals from Nottinghamshire to attend the Royal Wedding celebrations.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for those that have been nominated and I’m sure they will have a wonderful day and a memorable experience.
“They will be able to watch the arrival of guests, listen to a live broadcast of the wedding service and view the departure of the bride and groom’s carriage procession.”
