The Duchess of York has written a truly heartfelt message to her daughter Princess Eugenie on the occasion of her engagement to Jack Brooksbank. Printed exclusively in this week’s issue of HELLO! magazine, the sweet note tells of the couple’s “kindness, love and goodness”. Sarah wrote: “Dearest Eugenie and Jack The Man, when you walk into a room, you bring smiles to the faces of all who meet you. You both exude kindness, love and goodness. You have beautiful manners and go the extra mile to all who meet you. I was so proud of your pure love and joy shining through the press and television on Monday.”

The doting mum, who shares an elder daughter Princess Beatrice with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, went on to say: “Thank you for always making my day brighter and the laughter and happiness you bring to Papa, Beatrice and myself. The York Family embraces the magic of Jack totally. Exciting times ahead. It is wonderful to see and be part of such great and happy news. Love you both… Mumsie and Sarahs.”

Last week, Buckingham Palace announced the joyous news that Beatrice, 27, and her long-term partner Jack, 31, are engaged. The couple will marry in the autumn at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. After the news broke, an ecstatic Sarah took to Instagram to share previously unseen images of her daughter and future son-in-law. The Duchess expressed her “total joy,” writing in one caption: “We love Jack and I am so excited to have a son, a brother and a best friend. Eugenie is one of the finest people I know and so together it will be pure harmony.”

Meanwhile, Eugenie’s father Prince Andrew also shared his excitement. “Absolutely overjoyed, I’m thrilled,” he said. “Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man, and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I’m really thrilled for them.” Speaking about the logistics, the Queen’s son added: “It’s now about finding the time and the date and getting all organised. And I think autumn sometime will be the sort of time that everybody’s looking at. But we can’t fix a date yet – we’ve got to look at everybody’s diaries. It’s a bit more complicated than that.”
