Royal wedding: Meghan Markle’s request for a ’private’ wedding was REFUSED for this reason

ROYAL WEDDING: It is believed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were forced to change their wedding due to public demand. Meghan had hoped for a more private wedding day away from the public eye, but public demand meant they had to rethink.

The royal wedding of Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, will take place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19 2018.
It is believed Meghan wanted her wedding to be “much more private” than it has turned out, but had to bow to public demands.
There were thousands of letters from the public saying they wanted to be involved, which meant the couple had to concede to a carriage ride, a source told Express.co.uk exclusively.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding day is just around the corner, but will Meghan get the “private” wedding she has reportedly asked for?

Unlike the 2011 wedding of Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, the 600 guest wedding ceremony will not be considered a state occasion.

However, it seems Meghan has still had to make a compromise for the wedding ceremony, which she reportedly wanted to be a “much more private” affair than Kate and Prince William.

The couple have had to bow to public demand rather than have the more private wedding they wanted, an insider has revealed exclusively to Express.co.uk.

This compromise centres around a particular element of the wedding: the carriage ride.

The carriage procession will leave St. George’s Chapel at 1pm and take a route around Windsor Town, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

However, it would seem this is not what Meghan initially wanted for the wedding. “The carriage wasn’t going to happen,” revealed the insider.

“Meghan wanted it to be their wedding – it was her request for it to be much more private than Kate and William’s wedding.”

However, the couple were eventually forced to bow to public demand.

“The Palace received thousands of letters saying the public want to be part of the wedding,” said the insider.

“So Prince Charles said ‘Can we do carriages like Prince Edward and Sophie?’”

It is known Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex took a carriage ride around Windsor town on their wedding day, as Meghan and Harry will.

The carriage ride was later announced in a Kensington Palace statement as a chance for the public to “enjoy the atmosphere of this special day”.

Meghan’s love of a private wedding ceremony was reflected in her first wedding to film producer Trevor Engelson took place in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, in 2011.

The couple invited just 102 guests to their wedding celebrations, and the laid back ceremony took place on the beach.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Prince Harry has asked Prince William to be his best man on his wedding day.

The royal has asked his brother to fulfil the important role, a source has confirmed exclusively to Express.

Asked what role William would be taking in the marriage ceremony, the insider said: “William is Harry’s best man.

“There’s been a lot of banter, but it is 100 per cent going to be the Duke of Cambridge.”

Kensington Palace confirmed the rumours via Twitter today. The tweet reads: “Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle.”

It is known that Prince Harry was the best man for Prince William’s 2011 wedding to the Duchess of Cambridge, so will be able to advise his brother on what he needs to do.
