PRINCE Harry can turn to Prince William for help and advice because the relationship he has with his brother is stronger than the one he shares with Prince Charles, royal commentators claim.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in a gorgeous spring ceremony in May 2018 after something of a whirlwind romance. The royal family reportedly felt things had moved too quickly between the pair, which led to speculation of a rift between Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William. However, royal experts say that William voiced brotherly concerns as he has a closer relationship to Harry than their father, Prince Charles.
Australian magazine New Idea’s podcast “Royals” hears from journalists Rebecca Hyde and Angela Mollard.
Ms Mollard: “William probably did need to say to say to Harry, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure about this woman?’
“They hadn’t known each other particularly long. It’s a reasonable thing.”
Harry and Meghan met in summer 2016 and made their first public appearance together in September 2017, not long before announcing their engagement in November 2017.
In contrast, William and Kate Middleton met at university in 2001 and married ten years later, in 2011.
The podcast hosts say that William, rather than the princes’ father Prince Charles, was the right person to approach Harry.
Ms Mollard explained: “He has a closer relationship to Harry than Prince Charles does. He is the person in charge of the royal family going forward, and being that cohesive unit.
“It’s a fine thing for him to say, it’s a reasonable thing to say.”
Ms Hyde interjected: “Any brother would!”
Ms Mollard continued: “The fact that Harry has taken a little bit of issue with this, is natural too for a younger son.”
Ms Hyde agreed: “Siblings fall out, that’s life.”
Ms Mollard concluded: “I hope we see more harmony in 2019!”
With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new arrival due soon, in late April or May, many are looking to the royal baby to bring peace and unity to the royal family this year.
