Alexia, 16, has been studying at the UWC Atlantic College since August – costing a whopping £33,000 per year. But the college has gained somewhat of a reputation, being labelled the “Hogwarts for Hippies”.
Jens Waltermann, Executive Director of UWC International spoke to FEMAIL earlier this year about the Princess attending the college.
They said: “We are always delighted when a student chooses to join the UWC global education movement.
“UWC’s mission is to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and sustainability.
“We fulfil this mission by bringing together young people who would otherwise never meet.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Alexia of the Netherlands will join 4,500 other students from 155 countries, and from a diverse range of backgrounds, at one of our 18 schools.
“It doesn’t matter where a student comes from to access a UWC education, with over 75 percent of all students receiving partial or full scholarships.
“What matters is their potential to contribute towards building a better and more just future for all.
“Now more than ever we need to educate global citizens who want to engage in discourse, whatever their background or beliefs.”
The college has been dubbed the ‘Hogwarts for Hippies’

The Royal was spotted walking the streets with her fellow students, holding a sign which had the earth on it.
The crowd were heard chanting “What do we want?” “Climate justice!” and “When do we want it?” “Now!”.
A source told the Daily Mail: “The college’s philosophy is strictly attached to social issues like climate change.
“However, it has to be remarked that it is extremely unusual to see a royal family member take part in a demonstration so clearly designed to protest something rather than to promote something.”
The college has been home to royalty in the past.
Princess Alexia’s father, King Willem-Alexander, studied there in the 1980’s, with his daughter continuing the tradition this year.
King Willem-Alexander took the throne in 2013, around 30 years after his ventures in the college.
Princess Leonor of Spain also attends UWC Atlantic College
As the Princess departed for college in August, her family said: “Princess Alexia is leaving for the United World College of the Atlantic (UWC Atlantic College) in Llantwit Major in Wales.
“She will go there for her International Baccalaureate for the next two years.
“Princess Alexia completed the fourth year of the Sorghvliet Christian Gymnasium in The Hague last school year.”
