PRINCE Andrew’s lacking of “spiritual qualities” is what sets him apart from Prince Charles and Prince Edward, a documentary has claimed.
Prince Andrew had a successful career as a pilot in the royal navy, including action in the Falklands, with many sources close to the royal family claiming Andrew is the Queen’s favourite. In a letter the Queen sent to her second cousin, Lady Mary Cambridge who was also a bridesmaid at her wedding in 1947, she wrote after Andrew’s birth: “The baby is adorable, and is very good, and putting on weight well. Both the older children are completely riveted by him, and all in all, he’s going to be terribly spoilt by all of us, I’m sure!”
In regards to Andrew being the Queen’s favourite, royal expert James Whitaker said: “I don’t know whether that’s really true or not, I think that he was certainly the best looking of all of them.”
Even Prince Charles described Andrew as “the one with the Robert Redford looks”.
During the Princes’ younger years, Andrew appeared a “very easy going young man” without a “care in the world”.
In the BBC’s “Prince Andrew: The Documentary”, Andrew was described of being “easily capable of enjoying the privileges without suffering the problems of royalty“.
The documentary questions what goes on behind the princes’ heavy smile and informal manner.
The narrator said: “Prince Andrew’s unusual upbringing left a mark, Andrew could be seen withdrawn and remote”.
Royal biographer Anthony Holden comments that “Andrew turned out rather differently from Prince Charles and Prince Edward.
Mr Holden added: “[Edward and Charles] was very prone to suffering, and I think Andrew has a degree of self confidence that comes from somewhere.
“But he lacks there, let’s say, spiritual qualities. Intellectual sense of enquiry. Their souls in a way. He [Andrew] doesn’t have a lot of soul”.
Anthony Holden explains that all of Prince Philip and the Queen’s children “suffered quite a lot” during their childhood.
