Royal Butler reveals why Meghan and Harry hold hands but Kate Middleton and William don’t
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their first public appearance together in Nottingham, on 1 December 2017. The couple was very different in their demeanor to Kate Middleton and Prince William, holding hands very affectionately. Why are the couples so different?
Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are currently the jewel in the crown of the British Royal Family.
The couple have won the hearts of Britons and those overseas thanks to their unlikely romance.
The stunning LA-born TV actress and the fifth-in-line to the British throne are very modern in their attitude to public displays of affection.
The couple are often seen holding hands, putting their arms around one another or holding one another close as they walk.
Meghan is similarly touchy-feeling with the public, closely hugging a number of Britons in a very intimate move for someone associated with the Royal Family.
The images seem in stark contrast to those of Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, on their public trips.
The couple very rarely hold hands or touch one another, so why is this?
Grant Harrold, 38, has worked as a royal butler to various members of the Royal Family including HRH Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
He told Express.co.uk exclusively: “Of course, royals behave in a certain way.
“We’ve got to remember, Meghan and Harry are still in their engagement time, of course they are going to be touchy feeling.”
Why Meghan Markle and Harry hold hands but Kate Middleton and William don’t revealed
He revealed there are no hard and fast rules against public displays of affection in the Royal Family, so it is up to the individuals as to how they choose to act.
Grant added: “There is nothing to say they cannot do that.
“Traditionally and historically there has been no public affection, but this has become more relaxed.”
Prince William and Kate have shown some more discrete signs of public affection, including at this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade.
William put an affectionate hand on his heavily pregnant wife’s back as they met with officials, and an Irish wolfhound, at the event.
It may be that Meghan and Harry’s more relaxed displays are rubbing off on the couple.
Grant said: “People say they’re not touchy feely but we’ve all seen pictures of Will and Kate when they hold hands and have hugs.”
Kate Middleton’s due date is coming up soon, and it has been speculated that the modern couple could opt for a very different royal name.
Names such as Edward, Philip, Diana and Frederick have done the rounds.
This is mainly due to the fact that royals have a tradition of picking royal names.
