Royal baby name REVEALED: The reason why Kate and Prince William are keeping the world waiting
The ROYAL baby’s name may not be announced today, it can be revealed as speculation mounts over the name of Kate and Prince William’s newborn son.
Royal watchers across the world were expecting to find out the name of new prince yesterday – two days after the royal baby’s birth, as was the case when Prince George and Charlotte’s name were announced.
But it is likely the couple decided to hold off out of respect to Anzac Day, a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand.
And while experts were sure the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would make the announcement today, the clock is ticking.
It is understood out of courtesy the Queen is told before the name is officially announced.
Although it is not considered royal protocol, when Princess Charlotte was born an insider said William approached the Queen before her name was officially announced.
The source added: “The Queen and her grandson have grown exceptionally close in recent years and he trusts her judgement implicitly.”
When William arrived in 1982, his parents the Prince and Princess of Wales waited seven days before deciding on and announcing his chosen forenames.
Prince Harry’s name was announced much more quickly than his brother’s after he was born in September 1984, with the palace confirming it on the day he left hospital and saying that although he was called Henry, he would be known as Harry.
When Princess Beatrice was born in 1988, it was two weeks before her name was known.
Meanwhile Prince Charles’ name was not announced until a month after the heir to the throne was born.
It remained a mystery to the wider world and was only declared ahead of his christening in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace in December 1948.
The Duke of Cambridge has already revealed that a name the royal baby has been chosen as he dropped a hint yesterday that it is “a strong name”.
One person in the crowd suggested the baby’s name could be Alexander – to which William replied: “Funny you should say that.”
William remarks have sent bookmakers into a flurry as Alexander as surged ahead of the previous favourites, Arthur and James.
The Duke has been known to joke about the royal baby’s name in the past.
Earlier this month before the Duke knew the sex of his and Kate’s royal he said: “I’m going to insist the baby is called Jack,” before adding after a pause “… or Jackie”.
His remarks came after William, an Aston Villa fan, enjoyed a “spectacular” match against Cardiff City where footballer Jack Grealish smashed the ball into the net, securing an incredible late winner for his side.
