Queen’s visit to Glasgow hangs in the balance as doctors ‘clearly looking at something’

THE QUEEN has been told to rest by doctors as she waits for test results in the hope she will be able to attend the upcoming COP26 climate summit in November.

A Palace source told the Mirror the results of the initial tests “could result in the need for further examinations….or confirm that no further tests are necessary”.

The source added: “Clearly the doctors are looking at something during their preliminary investigations.”

Earlier in the week, a US royal commentator claimed the queen’s attendance at this year’s COP26 climate summit in Glasgow was called into question amid health concerns.

The COP26 conference in Glasgow is taking place to urge world leaders to do more to tackle climate change and the Queen is committed to attending the event with Prince Charles and Prince William.

Richard Berthelsen told CTV News: “The Queen was looking forward to hosting world leaders in Glasgow next week, in conjunction with the environment summit, obviously it’s very important to both Prince Charles and Prince William who are also participating.

“It’s a full court of press, it’s important to the UK government, it’s important to many people around the globe.

“I think the Queen wants to be there, there’s no question if there are any concerns over her health, that will not happen.”

However, on Friday it was reported the Queen would take on “light duties” until she has spoken with doctors.

Downing Street has not yet confirmed whether Boris Johnson held his weekly audience with the monarch on Wednesday.

According to the Mirror a spokesman said: “The Prime Minister’s best wishes have been passed on to Her Majesty.”

On Thursday night, Buckingham Palace released a statement stating the Queen had been hospitalised for tests.

Buckingham Palace said she was in “good spirits” following preliminary investigations during her visit to hospital.

The statement read: “Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits.”
