Prince Harry was interviewed on ABC by Michael Strahan about his new book Spare, set to be released later today.
“No. My grandmother and I had a very good relationship. But I had many many conversations with her over the years… So, it was never a surprise to anybody, least of all her,” he said.
He continued: “She knew what was going on. She knew how hard it was. I have huge amounts of respect for her.
“She never said to me that she was angry. I think she was sad that it got to that point.”
The royal blamed issues around security and the tabloid press for driving himself and Meghan away from the institution and the country.
While speaking to ITV’s Tom Bradby in an interview which aired in the UK on Sunday evening, Harry acknowledged that he and his wife have settled in California.
He added that any future conversation about re-joining the monarchy would have to see himself and his wife working from the United States.
The Duke of Sussex also discussed the Queen’s death and funeral in all of the interviews that have aired so far in both the US and the UK.
“Because our grandmother had finished life. There was more, I think, of a celebration and respect and recognition to what she had accomplished,” he said.
When he arrived at Balmoral on the day of the Queen’s death, he was greeted by Princess Anne and had a moment alone with Her Majesty after she had passed.
Speaking to CBS on Sunday he said: “I walked into the hall, and my aunt was there to greet me.
“And she asked me if I wanted to see her. I thought about it for five seconds, thinking ‘is this a good idea?’
Harry explained to Mr Cooper: “So I went upstairs, took my jacket off and walked in and just spent some time with her alone.
“She was in her bedroom. I was actually really happy for her…because she’d finished life.
“She’d completed life, and her husband was waiting for her. And the two of them are buried together.”
