THE QUEEN was spotted again using a walking stick as she marked the opening of the sixth Senedd alongside Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

While in Cardiff, the Queen marked the opening of the sixth Senedd, ahead of a speech in front of members of the Welsh Parliament. Sky News’ Rhiannon Mills spoke about the Queen’s arrival and reflected on the busy schedule of the head monarch. She said that they have been told it is not due to any new health conditions, the use of the walking stick, but rather for comfort.

Ms Mills also added, the Queen would be using a lift to enter the Senedd building rather than the stairs to ensure nothing went wrong.

Ms Mills said: “It has been an extraordinarily busy couple of weeks for the Queen.

“When you consider she is 95 years old, yes she lives a privileged life, but it is extraordinary.

“A couple of days ago there was a great deal of attention on the fact she arrived at Westminster Abbey for a celebration of the British Legion.

“She was carrying a walking stick, we are told not because there were any specific problems but purely for her comfort.”

Sky News host Adam Boulton added that the Queen, likely due to her age, only does the most important duties.

Ms Mills added: “The Queen has been incredibly busy, if you think back to the start of the summer, the G7 summit, she was front and centre.

“We had world leaders literally tripping over themselves trying to spend time alongside her.

“It is interesting what you were saying about the Queen using a lift in the House of Parliament.

“Today she has used a lift as well, I think it is all about being very practical these days, making sure nothing goes awry.”

Ms Mills also emphasised the significance of this public event today.

She added: “From everything I have heard from the Palace, she is incredibly keen after 18 months where she was there in Windsor in HMS Bubble.

“She was unable to carry out those public duties which she has done for almost 70 years as head monarch.

“After 18 months of being shut away, now she wants to get out and meet people.

“It is actually 5 years since she has been to Wales so this is a very important moment.”
