Mr Vickers added: “Prince Edward and Sophie have told us that there were quite a few times when they were talking to the Queen and Prince Philip from sort of ground level and they were up on the balcony.
“So that they were all socially distanced.”

Queen ‘wanted to set example at Christmas’ says expert
“The one thing the Queen would wish to do would be to set an example.”
The Queen’s former press secretary between 1990 and 1997 told the programme the monarchy could be strengthened by what had been a difficult year.
Charles Anson said: “The strength of our monarchy is that it is able to adapt.
“It’s changing and I think providing the values are still there, it often changes for the better.”
“But she has symbolised so much of what we hope for from a royal family that, in a sense, I think the respect for her is stronger than ever.
“I think the future of the Royal Family is more secure as a result of the way she’s steered us through these difficult months.”
While veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil hailed the Queen as a “unifying figure” in troubling times.
He added the monarch is also “a figure of common sense that wasn’t always true in previous crises”.
Mr Neil continued: “This time she’s come through with flying colours.”
