Queen ‘sent strawberries & muffins’ after royal piper’s wife given heartbreaking diagnosis

THE QUEEN arranged for strawberries and muffins to be sent to the hospital where the wife of her Royal Piper was being treated.

Major Scott Methven served as the Queen’s Royal Piper from 2015 to 2019 and was told to leave his duties after his wife was diagnosed with cancer. In an act of kindness, the Queen sent gifts to the nurses who were treating his wife, Morven. After his wife was diagnosed with stage four cancer, Mr Methven was instructed to take as much time he needed to be with his wife in hospital.

Indeed, the Queen ordered him to give a prepared basket to the nurses at the hospital.

Recounting the moment to BBC Scotland, Mr Methven praised the Queen for the touching gesture.

He said: “One morning when I went to the hospital, the Queen had arranged for strawberries and muffins to be made up in a basket for the nurses.

“She said ‘make sure they get that’.

“People on the military side were conscious about me getting back to work but the Queen said ‘absolutely not, it’s family first, you have as much time as you need to look after your wife’.”

His wife was diagnosed on their wedding anniversary in 2017.

Mrs Methven died a year later.
