Queen CAMILLA: Prince Charles’ wife takes MAJOR step towards title after showdown talks
CAMILLA Parker Bowles is to take a major step towards becoming Queen, a source has revealed to Daily Star Online.
Prince Charles is to hold “showdown talks” to make his wife a Maj when he becomes King, which could turn “heated”.
He will discuss with senior Royal aides the possibility of making Camilla “Queen Consort” when Elizabeth II dies.
The meeting, which will also involve Government officials, is said to take place next month.
But he faces a mountain to climb because the Duchess of Cornwall, 70, does not want to assume the title.
A Royal source told Daily Star Online: “The situation has not changed, she does not want to be Queen.”
The source previously revealed to us Queen Elizabeth II plans to take a step back when she turns 95.
She will bring the Regency Act into force which will make Charles a Prince Regent – a King in all but name.
This legislation will see the Queen stay on the throne, but take a step back due to her age and hand roles to Charles.
When she dies, however, Charles as heir to the throne will become King – leaving a big question mark over his wife.
She will have to decide whether or not to be known as Queen Consort, or the lesser-known Princess Consort.
Our source told us: “Her Majesty will hand over more power to Prince Charles and he could become Prince Regent but she will still be Queen until her last day.
“Camilla still not want to be Queen Consort but Charles is holding a meeting with cabinet officials on the plans in March.
“They have been having these meetings since 2015 in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
“They discuss changes involving the Monarch, heir (to the throne) and their spouse.
“I know they will discuss Camilla’s role as Charles wants her to be Queen Consort, but public opinion wants her to be Princess Consort.
“I know they will discuss Camilla’s role”
“This will be a big heated talk.”
Before their marriage in 2005, Clarence House indicated that Camilla had no desire for the Queen Consort role and wanted to be known as Princess Consort.
The official wedding announcement said: “It is intended that Mrs Parker Bowles should use the title HRH the Princess Consort when the Prince of Wales accedes to the throne.”
But with Charles apparently eager to make his wife a Queen, that “intention” could change.
Yet when Daily Star Online contacted Clarence House for comment, a spokesman said: “There is no such annual meeting in March or any other month that reviews the status of the Royal Family or the individuals within it in any way.”
