Princess Eugenie baby: Will Princess Eugenie’s baby have a prince or princess title?

PRINCESS EUGENIE is due to give birth in early 2021, but will her baby have a prince or princess title?

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are currently expecting their first child. The couple shared the happy announcement in late 2020 revealing their baby is due in early 2021. Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and was married in October 2018. But will baby Brooksbank be entitled to use a prince or princess title?

Princess Eugenie is the second daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York.

She is currently 10th in line to the throne right behind her older sister Princess Beatrice.

Her child will be 11th in line to the throne, a position currently held by Prince Edward.

In a touching Instagram post featuring two photographs, one of the couple and one of them holding a pair of booties, the couple revealed their exciting news.

The caption on the post read: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021…”

An official statement about the news was shared by Buckingham Palace shortly after Princess Eugenie shared her news.

The statement read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”

The soon-to-be grandmother Sarah Ferguson was also quick to share her happiness at the news.

She tweeted: “I am so excited by the news that Eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child.

“Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother.

“Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy.”

Will Princess Eugenie’s baby be a prince or princess?

Princess Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice both use the princess title, like their cousins Prince William and Prince Harry.

However, their cousins Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Gabriella Windsor and James Viscount Severn do not use these titles.

Upon marriage, Eugenie’s husband was not granted a royal title.

This means baby Brooksbank will not inherit a title unless granted one by the Queen.

Due to the letters patent issued by King George V in 1917, only the grandchildren of sons of any Sovereign are entitled to use the prince or princess title.

The clause reads: “The grandchildren of the sons of any such Sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales).”

However, it is possible the Queen may choose to offer the new royal baby a prince or princess title.

Sources close to the royals have revealed Eugenie is not expected to accept a title for her child even if she is offered one.

An insider told Vanity Fair: “Eugenie knows that a title can be a curse as well as a blessing and she and Jack want their child to live an ordinary life and eventually work to earn a living.”

In recent years, members of the Royal Family who are not directly in line to the throne have opted not to hold any royal titles.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided not to use royal titles in 2019 when their son Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born.

Of all of the Queen’s great-grandchildren, only the three Cambridge royals, who retain the highest positions in the line of succession, hold royal titles.

As Princess Eugenie’s child will be 11th in line to the throne at the time of their birth, it is unlikely the Queen would opt to intervene and offer a prince or princess title.

For this reason, it is also highly unlikely Eugenie’s baby will bear the style of His or Her Royal Highness (HRH).

By comparison, Princess Beatrice is the eldest child of Prince Andrew and Sarah and may well hold courtesy titles.

However, these titles will not likely be awarded by the Queen, instead, if any titles are granted they will likely be the result of Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s Italian title of Count.
