“His mother’s cause-driven life and the tragic manner of her death has not only coloured Harry’s relationship with his family, and the wider public, it has shaped the couple’s world view.”
Mr Morton, who has written an updated version of his book ‘Meghan: A Hollywood Princess’, added: “As the Sussexes embarked on their own journey together through Royal life, not a day went by without a reference, a memory or a decision that related in some way to Harry’s late mother.
“Diana was the third wheel in their marriage.”
Andrew Morton claimed Diana is the ‘third wheel’ in Harry and Meghan’s marriage
Royal author Andrew Morton claimed “all roads lead back to Diana” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
The royal biographer, who penned ‘Diana: Her True Story’, highlighted how Meghan’s engagement ring contained diamonds from Diana’s jewellery collection.
Speaking during their engagement interview, Harry said his late mother would be with them on “this crazy journey”.
Mr Morton said: “But the ghost of Diana would loom over the lives of Prince Harry and his new wife in less happy ways, too, as time passed and as Meghan grappled with a set of challenges uncannily similar to those that once faced the mother-in-law she never met.”
Harry and Meghan quit royal duties last year for a new life in America.
They are living in California with their children Archie and Lili.

The couple recently made their first major post-Megxit trip with a visit to New York.
The Sussexes carried out a string of high-profile engagements while in the Big Apple.
They kicked off the visit with an appearance at the city’s One World Trade Centre.
They posed for the media at the top of the skyscraper against the panoramic backdrop, alongside New York City mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor of New York State Kathy Hochul.
The pair later met US ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
Their New York trip also included a visit to a school where Meghan read from her children’s book, The Bench.
And the tour ended with the Sussexes stepping out on stage as part of the star-studded Global Citizen Live event calling on leaders to adopt a vaccine equity policy.
