Kate Middleton news: Princess Charlotte forbidden from wearing this? Royal parenting rules revealed

Princess Charlotte has never been seen in public wearing shorts or trousers.

While many energetic little girls might wear leggings to run around, Kate only dresses her daughter in dresses.

Is this part of a royal rule? Are little girls forbidden from wearing trousers?

According to one royal expert they are not, and Charlotte may well wear them behind the scenes.

Royal Musings blog founder Marlene Koenig told BAZAAR.com: “There are no rules about no pants. If the Duchess is in a dress in public and Charlotte is with her, most likely Charlotte, at this age, will be in a dress – also in formal portraits, or on the balcony for the Trooping of the Colour.”

“I expect that when the kids are at home, playing in the nursery or in the backyard, they are wearing more casual clothes.”

While there is no rule about wearing trousers per se, it does seem traditional for royal girls to wear dresses.

Marlene said: “If you look at photos of young royal girls – from Princess Anne to Charlotte, you will notice that they tend to wear smocked dresses as little girls when they are in public with their parents.”

However, Prince George wore trousers on the family’s annual Christmas card, breaking royal protocol.

Etiquette expert William Hanson told Harpers Bazaar: “It’s a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts.

“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England.

Kate Middleton is planning to break tradition when it comes to what school Prince George will go to.

Rebecca English for the Daily Mail claimed “friends” revealed Kate and William’s plans for their eldest son’s schooling.

Many may have assumed that Prince George would attend Eton, like his father.

However, his parents might be considering sending him to his mother’s former school.

Kate and William have discussed sending George to £12,605-a-term Marlborough, rather than £13,556-a-term Eton
