Wedding printing and photography experts Printique analysed monthly Google searches for the wedding dresses of the most high-profile royal women. Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress was the most popular in the UK, with Princess Beatrice’s coming in second according to the data, ahead of other royals including Meghan Markle and the Queen.

For the occasion, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen lace bridal gown which pulls in 14,000 searches a month – more than triple the searches for all royal gowns on the list.

The dress featured an elegant Victorian bodice, a delicate V-neckline, and long, lace-embroidered sleeves and was estimated to cost £250,000.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding gown is the nation’s second-most Googled, ranking her above Princess Diana, Meghan Markle and even the Queen.

Beatrice, 33, tied the knot with property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020.

The couple held a scaled-back service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge amid the Covid pandemic.

The bridal gown worn by Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter fetches 11,000 searches a month, pulling in nearly three times the average monthly searches for all royal wedding dresses.

For the occasion, Beatrice wore a Norman Hartnell vintage gown, crafted from Peau De Soie taffeta and adorned with diamante accents.

Her dress was stepped with history too, as it was one that she had borrowed from her grandmother, the Queen.

The bridal outfit, with its elegant, fitted bodice and gently flared skirt, was remodelled by royal designers Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin.

To update the gown’s appearance for Beatrice’s special day, the designers added organza sleeves.

Beatrice also paid another special tribute to the Queen, by opting to wear the same diamond fringe wedding tiara worn by Her Majesty on her wedding day to Prince Philip in 1947.

Beatrice’s choice of dress also caused searches for ‘vintage style wedding dress’ to spike 228 percent globally in July 2020.

Charles and Diana's wedding

A spokesperson for Printique commented on the findings: “Royal wedding dresses represent some of the most extraordinary pieces of couture in history.

The fact that Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress is the second most Googled in the UK, beating both Princess Diana’s and Meghan Markle’s gowns, proves the British public’s affection for the Queen (who lent the dress to Princess Beatrice) and interest in vintage styles and the delicious nostalgia they evoke”.

Her gown was also an anomaly in the wedding study, as it was not a new couture dress like those worn by Kate, Meghan and Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie.

The third spot in the study’s rankings went to Princess Diana, whose dress pulls in 8,000 searches a month.

For her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, Diana wore an ivory silk taffeta and tulle gown crafted by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, and the iconic piece brings in double the average monthly searches for all royal wedding dresses on the list.

Meghan and Harry's 2018 wedding

The gown featured a 25-foot train, waves of crinoline skirts and was encrusted with hand-embroidered pearls and sequins, curving towards a heart motif on the fitted, boned bodice.

In fourth place, fetching 4,000 searches a month, was the Givenchy dress worn by Meghan Markle for her and Harry’s 2018 wedding.

The bateau neckline dress also featured an elegant train and a veil embroidered with the national flowers of the 53 Commonwealth countries, as a nod to the Queen’s position as head of the commonwealth.

The fifth spot was claimed by the Queen while the sixth and seventh most searched for royal wedding dresses belonged to Princess Eugenie and Princess Margaret.

Zara Tindall ranked eighth, with Queen Victoria in ninth place and Sarah Ferguson rounding off the top ten.
