Prince William ‘felt insecure’ after Harry and Meghan fast-tracked to ‘minor role’

Prince William was left “worried and jealous” after a “plum role” inside the Royal Family was awarded to his brother and sister-in-law, according to Katie Nicholl’s book The New Royals.

This is said to have got worse when the Queen fast-tracked Harry and Meghan into being appointed the President and Vice President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, respectively.

This left William “slightly insecure” and “worried” after he himself had his eyes on the role.

The Prince of Wales was apparently “jealous” of Harry at the time.

Discussing the tensions on Palace Confidential, Ms Griffiths said: “I am surprised Prince William felt slightly insecure.”

She added: “Ultimately he will be King and very important and integral to the Royal Family.

“I’m amazed he was worried about missing out on perhaps some of the lesser roles.”

The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust was launched in 2018, in honour of the Queen’s 92nd birthday, and held the patronage of the late monarch and her grandson Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex was appointed as Vice President shortly after the royal wedding.

In her book, Ms Nicholl wrote about the Queen fast-tracking Harry and Meghan into new roles to ensure they felt special before the wedding.

Ms Griffith said: “Katie reports that this was a plum role that William quite fancied for himself.

“I can imagine the frustration William must have been feeling given that they felt so left out.

“All these special measures were being put in place to make them feel really included and yet they’re so resentful that they weren’t made to feel welcome.”

Despite the apparent inclusion efforts by the institution, Prince Harry and Meghan made the decision to step back as working royals just a couple of years after their wedding, in 2020.

This comes as William has been urged to take responsibility for the ongoing feud with his brother and end the rift.

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe suggested the senior role William now possesses means the “onus” is on him to resolve the tension.

Mr Larcome told The Royal Beat that Willam, who stands next in line to the throne, could show he can “be a leader” if he takes action.
