Prince William ‘ends’ friendship with Tom Bradby over pro-Harry and Meghan reports – claim

PRINCE WILLIAM has ended his years-long friendship with journalist Tom Bradby, who has reportedly been accused by some Palace staff of leaning too much in favour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to a commentator.

The royal insider told the Daily Mail: “The friendship between William and Tom is very much over.

“The Duke feels let down by Bradby and the way he’s acted over the past few months.

“William is a sensitive soul and believes it’s in times of crisis when you find out who your true friends are.

“It would be fair to say Bradby hasn’t been one of them.”

The source added: “The Duke will, of course, remain cordial and professional in his relations with senior media figures, but that special relationship he once had with Bradby is no more.

“William no longer sees him as a friend.”

The source also claimed some staff at the Palace believe Mr Bradby’s reporting is partial to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

They said: “Some staff at the Palaces are even angrier about Bradby and the tone of his reporting at ITV News, which they consider to be pro-Harry and Meghan.

“It’s well-known Bradby personally communicates with Harry on a regular basis and that is pretty obvious to royal aides who know how things work.

“But it’s been very difficult to accept given the long history between Bradby and William.”

Mr Bradby has interviewed in the past both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and is known to have been close to Prince Harry and William.

In 2004, the reporter followed Prince Harry to Lesotho, the African kingdom he first visited during his gap year, to film a documentary.

Kate and Prince William chose him as the interviewer for their first sit-down since announcing their engagement in November 2010.

A spokesman for William at the time said: “The couple asked to record this interview specifically with Mr Bradby, whom they have both known for some time.”

The ITV News At Ten anchor also conducted the engagement interview of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in November 2017.

More recently, he filmed a documentary with Meghan and Prince Harry during their tour to Africa – their last as full-time working royals.

Appearing on the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry famously admitted there was a rift between him and his brother, confessing they were “on different paths”.

Interviewed by Mr Bradby on the last day of the tour, Meghan thanked him for asking if she was “okay”.

She added: “Not many people have asked if I’m okay.

“It’s a very real thing to go through behind the scenes…it has really been a struggle.”

In the wake of Meghan and Harry’s Megxit announcement in January 2020, Mr Bradby denied Buckingham Palace had been blindsided by the Sussexes.

He said: “It’s certainly not true to say the palace were blindsided by this.

“The couple’s view was they came back and wanted to talk to the family about their plans.”

This was also confirmed by Meghan and Harry during their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Then, the Duke said he would never blindside his grandmother and had discussed his plans for the future over the phone with both the sovereign and Prince Charles while he was still on a break in Canada.

Express.co.uk has contacted Kensington Palace, ITV and representatives of Mr Bradby.

A spokeswoman for ITV News told the Mail: “Unfortunately at this moment we won’t be in a position to comment.”
