Prince William ‘blindsided’ Palace insiders after admitting Kate Middleton ‘the One’

PRINCE William reportedly shocked Buckingham Palace officials when he became a “real item” with his university girlfriend, Kate Middleton.

“Remember, Catherine and her family came in from some flack from inside the Royal Family, there was never any sense that Catherine was ‘the One’, she was always seen as a girlfriend or a friend from university who would fade into the background.

“Everybody inside the Palace was blindsided when she became a real item of William’s.

“Harry felt that he’d supported William and he didn’t feel that he was getting the same support from his brother during his courtship with Meghan.”

Prince William first met Kate during their first year of university at St Andrew’s in Scotland in 2001.

They were both students in residence at St Salvator’s Hall, with Kate reportedly catching the future king’s eye after she participated in a charity fashion show wearing a see-through lace dress.

The two shared the same friendship group and even lived together during their second year before embarking on a romantic relationship.

Despite a brief split in 2007, the couple were frequently spotted together, with Kate and her family enduring intense tabloid scrutiny during this period.

She first met the Queen in 2008, and later that year, she attended the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly in William’s stead, as he was away on active service with the armed forces.

The couple announced their engagement in November 2010, after Prince William proposed with Princess Diana’s former engagement ring whilst they were on holiday in Kenya.

They were married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, in a televised service that was watched by hundreds of millions across the globe.

Since then, they have welcomed three children together; Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three.

Whilst Palace officials may have originally doubted the seriousness of Kate’s position, she has now established herself as one of the leading figures within the Royal Family.

Before his marriage to Meghan Markle, Prince Harry resided near the Cambridges at Kensington Palace, and the three had launched the Heads Together initiative to improve mental health services across the UK.

However, his relationship with Prince William became strained after he reportedly felt unsupported in his courtship with the American actress, who he began to date in the summer of 2016.

After the couple married in 2018, cracks began to emerge between the two couples and the Sussexes later moved away from Kensington Palace.

Prince Harry and Meghan have now stepped down from the Royal Family, and have since relocated to California. In subsequent interviews, the Duke of Sussex has said that despite Williama and Kate being “welcoming” at first, their attitudes later changed.

Since leaving the Royal Family, the Cambridges have only seen Prince Harry on two occasions, and have not seen Meghan since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
