The documentary recently broadcasted on Channel 5 drew parallels between Meghan Markle and Sarah Ferguson’s experience with the Firm, highlighting issues that they both faced, from bombshell interviews to intense scrutiny by the British press.
Both were interviewed in the US by Oprah Winfrey, and when quizzed on her thoughts about Meghan and Harry’s interview, Fergie commented that Oprah “helped her greatly.”
She also remarked how she could “identify” with Meghan, and that Diana would be proud of her sons and their wives.
Before his death, it was reported that Prince Philip accepted his grandson’s decision to step down from his role, commenting that it was “his life.”
Fergie was not among the 30 mourners at Prince Philip’s funeral, instead she looked after her grandson August, in the Royal Lodge.
Although Fergie’s relationship with Philip fell into disrepair, there is one royal that she has reportedly kept on her side.
The Duchess of York has previously opened up about her relationship with the Queen, saying she was “more of a mother” to her than her own mother was.
Just last month Fergie was spotted heading to the Queen’s Balmoral Estate in the Scottish Highlands, hinting that she may have found her way back as part of the royal fold.
Fergie has recently referred to Her Majesty as “her greatest mentor.”
Despite their divorce in 1996, the Duke and Duchess of York maintained a friendly and close relationship, co-parenting their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
During the first lockdown in the UK, the pair lived on the grounds on Windsor and spent time with their youngest daughter and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
