Prince Harry could honour Philip in testimonial requested by Duke before death

PRINCE HARRY was asked by Prince Philip to record a testimonial to be played at his funeral, it has been claimed.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Prince Philip’s health had been slowly deteriorating for some time.

The Duke had been admitted to the King Edward VII hospital in Marylebone, central London, on February 16 for observation after feeling unwell.

While it was not an emergency admission and he walked in unaided, that stay was extended and Buckingham Palace later revealed he was being treated for an infection.

After 13 nights at the private hospital, he was transferred to St Bartholomew’s – a cardiac specialist NHS centre.

While some royals visited him during his stay, his grandson, US-based Prince Harry, was not among them.

The Prince relocated across the Atlantic in California with wife Meghan Markle at the beginning of 2020.

Family friends have said the Prince will likely want to return to the UK for any funeral arrangements.

The source told the Daily Mail: “Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family.

“He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time.

“Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.”

Before entering into blissful married life with Meghan, Harry was known for his rebellious side and his most scandalous antics include being infamously pictured dressed as a Nazi in 2005 and in being photographed naked in a Las Vegas hotel after a game of strip billiards.

It was Philip who reportedly set him on the right path.

In 2008, Harry, who had been a regular fixture on the party scene, had a series of frank discussions with his grandfather before leaving for Africa, where he worked on charity projects with fellow soldiers from the Household Cavalry.

A royal source close to the Prince told the Daily Mail at the time: “Harry will probably go out to let off some steam now he’s back home but he has said his Boujis nights are numbered.

“He and his grandfather are very close and Harry is determined that Prince Philip knows how seriously he takes his role.

“Harry has said he is busy planning the next step of his military career and wants to continue doing charity work in Africa.

“Philip sees a lot of himself in Harry.

“He loves his get-up-and-go, his love of the Army and his sense of humour.

“‘He wants to know that Harry is going to be a dutiful Prince, not a wayward one.”

The source added: “I’m told Prince Philip has asked Harry to record a testimonial to be played at his funeral.

“Harry sees it as a great honour.”

Clarence House declined to comment on Harry’s private life.

But a Buckingham Palace spokesman said at the time: “Many friends and family have given testimonials for the Duke of Edinburgh, although I am not aware that Prince Harry has recorded one.”
