Daniela Elser, an Australian journalist and royal commentator, said the Duke of Sussex and Duke of Cambridge could be going down a dangerous path. In a recent column, the royal expert said she hopes Prince Harry and Prince William will stop fighting a war through the media as their parents did in the 1990s.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the nation last year when they decided to step down as senior royals.
ITV journalist Tom Brady recently said Prince Harry is “heartbroken” about the rift between him and his family.
Mr Brady was a guest at the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018 and he has previously interviewed the couple before they decided to step down from royal life.
During an interview on Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh, Mr Brady said: “I think they are content, the things they are doing they are quite excited by.
Prince Harry and Prince William are at risk of making the same “toxic” mistake as Princess Diana
Relations between the Dukes and Duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge reportedly broke down last year
“I think Harry is heartbroken.
“You don’t necessarily need to have the knowledge to know that, but I think it is true.”
Mr Brady added: “The situation with the family clearly isn’t ideal. It’s been a difficult year.”
Ms Elser compared the current situation with the “War of the Wales” – the alleged conflict between Princess Diana and Prince Charles before their divorce.

She wrote for news.com.au: “Of late, there have been signs that a similar sort of battle is heating up.”
Ms Elser referred to “steady rat-a-tat stories” from sources linked to both William and Harry in the last 18 months.
The royal commentator did not specifically claim that Mr Brady was requested by the Duke of Sussex to make his comments.
But she did explain how there seems to be two “princely camps” of friends and sources willing to speak up for their favourite side’s defence.
Ms Elser wrote: “What the War of the Wales’ proved was that each time a ‘source’ or anonymous ‘friend’ appeared in the press to argue the party line, each of these salvos made the palace civil war that much more intractable and toxic.
“The hope has to be that William and Harry both don’t go so far down this same path.
“While their relationship has clearly struggled, surely the universal hope here is that at some point in the not-too-distant future they find a way to move on from the hurts of recent years, that they can patch things up and enjoy a renewed bond and camaraderie.”
She explained that Charles and Diana eventually realised their media war caused more harm than good.
Ms Elser added that she hopes the brothers can reach the same realisation one day.

Relations between the Dukes and Duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge broke down last year, according to reports.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to exit from royal life is thought to have worsened relations between the Dukes.
Writing in Vanity Fair in December, royal author Katie Nicholl said: “No one knew on January 8, when Harry and Meghan first announced they were stepping down as senior royals, what a turbulent year would follow.
“But their bombshell statement, posted on their brand-new Sussex Royal website, set the tone for months of hand-wringing among royal watchers, and the royal themselves.
“Some royal historians and commentators have claimed Harry and Meghan’s departure, and the historic fallout between Harry and Prince William, was the closest the House of Windsor had come to a constitutional crisis since the death of Princess Diana.”
