Prince Harry and Prince William ‘regret’ royal rift but damage is ‘irreparable’

PRINCE HARRY and Prince William “regret” their royal rift but the damage is now “irreparable”, a royal commentator claimed.

Despite having left the UK and Royal Family to pursue private lives, Meghan and Harry remain firmly in the public eye. The most recent controversy comes in the shape of their new-born, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Friends of the couple reportedly said they had introduced Lilibet to the Queen on a video call.

Despite the claims, Palace insiders deny that any such meeting took place.

Meghan and Harry’s troubles with the Royal Family took off last year after they announced they would be moving to North America.

They initially said they would split their time, but after moving to the US from Canada, it became clear they would no longer be returning.

Tensions between Harry and his brother, Prince William, have long been a talking point, and were made more obvious during the Queen’s annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey last year, when the pair ignored each other.

Much of the bad blood between the brothers, royal commentators have noted, stems from a claim in the book, ‘Finding Freedom’.

Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand suggested that William, in the run-up to Meghan and Harry’s wedding, urged his brother to take as “much time as he needed” with “this girl”.

Yet, according to Camilla Tominey, a royal author speaking during Channel 5’s documentary, ‘Meghan & Harry – Two Troubled Years’, Harry misinterpreted his brother’s concerns.

“Things were said and done in the run-up to the wedding that both sides regret but had caused irreparable damage.”

Richard Kay, another royal author also speaking during the documentary, suggested that Harry’s “headstrong” nature might have contributed to the misunderstanding.

He said: “That’s Harry, he’s quite a headstrong, impulsive young man.

“He’s much more like his late mother than William who considers things and is in that regard is more of a Windsor and more like his father.”

Finding Freedom’s authors claim Harry considered the words “this girl” condescending.

The book said: “In those last two words, ‘this girl’, Harry heard the tone of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world.

“During his ten-year career in the military, outside the royal bubble, he had learnt not to make snap judgements about people based on their accent, education, ethnicity, class or profession.”

However, Harry did refer to Meghan as “this girl” during their engagement interview with the BBC in 2017.

The couple have been busy in recent months building for themselves a brand empire.

They have already secured lucrative contracts with streaming giants Netflix, Spotify and Apple TV+.

Harry has also been given various jobs in the US technology hub Silicon Valley.

Meghan has recently published her first children’s book with Penguin Random House, ‘The Bench’.

William and Kate, meanwhile, have continued to fulfil official duties in the UK.

Their most recent visit saw them travel to Scotland.
