Prince Edward faces ‘personal challenge’ as royal duty jeopardises Lady Louise’s privacy

PRINCE Edward and Sophie Wessex will find it more difficult to ensure “privacy is respected” when it comes to their two children, as the couple rise through the ranks of the Royal Family.

Lady Louise Windsor and her younger brother James, Viscount Severn, could face a growing interest from the media and the paparazzi as their parents take on a “much higher profile” within the Royal Family. In recent years, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex have taken on more responsibilities for the Queen, which could “circumvent” their efforts to shield their children from the media spotlight.

Discussing the role of the couple’s daughter Lady Louise, The List reported: “Even though Louise is almost 18 years old, she is only ever really seen during official royal events.

“Edward has spoken about his desire to keep his kids out of the headlines – as his importance in the Royal Family increases, the chances of Louise and James being available for scrutiny also increases.

“Still, that privacy is certainly currently being extended to Louise, who is often only ever seen with one of her parents.

“Time will tell if the media and paparazzi end up finding a way to circumvent Edward’s efforts to shield her from the public eye as she gets older.”

Although Prince William and Kate’s children are often spotted in public, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex have always been guarded about the privacy of their children.

Aside from formal royal events such as Trooping the Colour and the Sandringham Christmas walk, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, are rarely seen in public.

During a recent interview with Naga Munchetty for BBC Radio 5 Live, the Countess of Wessex spoke of her attitude towards her children’s privacy and social media.

Speaking of Lady Louise’s decision not to join any social platforms, she said: “Purely her choice. Absolutely. I wouldn’t deny her going onto it. But she’s not really that interested in it.

The Countess continued: “But inevitably there will be moments that, you know, may not go so well for her. I just hope we can be there to support her through those moments.

“I would hope that she can go on with her studies, which I think she probably will want to do, and I hope that she and her friends will protect her from anything that somebody might want to do.”

Prince Harry has recently spoken in interviews about the impact media intrusion had on his mental health while growing up, after being subjected to constant tabloid speculation from an early age.

Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex have raised their public profile in recent months, in an effort to support the Queen.

Since the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the death of Prince Philip and the withdrawal of Prince Andrew, the couple have taken on more responsibilities and are now seen as crucial members of The Firm.

They are known as part of the “Marvellous Seven”, the key leading royals who represent the Queen at formal engagements.

The members include Princess Anne, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Edward and Sophie currently reside with their two children in Bagshot Park, a royal residence near Windsor Castle.
