Host Lizzie Robinson told listeners: “It will pass to Prince Edward eventually, but right now it’s passed to Prince Charles.
“When Prince Charles becomes king, the title returns back to the Crown.
“It’s at that point that it can be given to Prince Edward.”
Co-host Chris Ship added: “It passes to Prince Charles because he is the eldest son.”
Prince Charles to inherit Duke of Edinburgh first despite Philip promising title to Edward
Ms Robinson said: ‘It’s at that point that it can be given to Prince Edward.’
He explained: “But he won’t use it because he’s got his other titles.
“Obviously Prince of Wales, heir to the throne, Duke of Rothesay, Duke of Cornwall and all the rest of it.
“So it will be Prince Edward who will be the future Duke of Edinburgh.
“He will now therefore take over and steer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.”
Mr Ship said: ‘So it will be Prince Edward who will be the future Duke of Edinburgh.’
Prince Edward is set to adopt the Duke of Edinburgh title.
Currently Prince Edward only holds the Earl of Wessex title.
It was announced back in 2015 that he would become the next Duke of Edinburgh.
Philip’s youngest son has taken an increasingly active role with the D of E Award scheme.
ROYAL FAMILY TREE

At a Sunday church service at the chapel on the Windsor estate, Edward spoke to reporters about his father’s death.
The royal said: “It’s been a bit of a shock. However much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this it’s still a dreadful shock. And we’re still trying to come to terms with that. And it’s very, very sad.
“It just goes to show: he might have been our father, grandfather, father-in-law, but he meant so much to so many other people.”
“As always. But bearing up, and again it’s just that wave of affection for him and just those lovely stories.”
