Her Majesty was told not to attend the climate summit in Glasgow after a recent illness. Now, a royal expert has suggested the Prince of Wales will attend the COP26 along with Prince William.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk the monarch “will be very sorry” not to attend the summit.
He added: “As she showed with her broadcasts last year, she can convey a message so impressively when speaking virtually.
“As head of state of the host country, she will undoubtedly do so for COP26.
“The Prince of Wales, famed for his environmental credentials, will be present as will Prince William, whose Earthshot Prize is a unique contribution to this pivotal issue.”
On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed Her Majesty would not attend the COP26 on advisement from doctors.
A statement said: “Following advice to rest, the Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle.
“Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Evening Reception of COP26 on Monday, 1 November.
“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”
Prince Charles news: Richard Fitzwilliams said Charles ‘famed for his environmental credentials’ wil k
It comes after Charles held a phone call with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan ahead of the climate summit.
According to a post on Mr Khan’s Twitter, reposted by Clarence House, the pair “exchanged views” on the COP26.
In a thread, the Prime Minister’s office stated: “HRH the Prince of Wales conveyed gratitude of the British Government for Pakistan’s support and facilitation in evacuating its nationals and others from Afghanistan.”
Charles has also urged Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to attend the summit, calling it the “last-chance saloon”.
In an interview with the BBC, the Prince of Wales was asked about Mr Morrison not confirming whether he would attend.
He said: ”Well, that’s what I’m trying to say all the time, and the point being that this is a last-chance saloon, literally.
“Because if we don’t really take the decisions that are vital now, it’s going to be almost impossible to catch up.
Royal expert Natalie Oliveri has also claimed William is “really stepping up” since Her Majesty has been advised to rest.
She said on the TODAY show: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, they were all seen at Heathrow airport on Thursday, they were coming back from a family holiday.
“Now they had arrived on Thursday, the same day Queen Elizabeth was discharged from hospital in London so many people are seeing that as rushing back to be by the Queen’s side.
“So far, we aren’t being told there is any cause for alarm but Prince William is one of the royals really stepping up, taking charge of these royal duties.
“He apparently is taking charge of the Balmoral and Sandringham estates in the Queen’s absence, those were jobs that his grandfather Prince Philip would have done before his passing, so really William is preparing to be king one day of course after his father.”
