“I could not be more proud of them.”
Charles attended the Earthshot reception at COP26 with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Charles and William have both frequently campaigned for more to be done in the fight against climate change, as has Prince Harry.
Likewise, the princes’ mother, Princess Diana, dedicated much of her time to humanitarian causes.
The ‘People’s Princess’, as she became known, developed an intense interest in serious illnesses and health-related matters, including AIDS and leprosy.
She also served as patron of charities and organisations working with homeless people, people struggling with addiction, young people and the elderly.
Behind the scenes, however, her and Charles’ marriage was becoming increasingly fractured.
Diana told royal author Andrew Morton in 1991 that her and Charles’ marriage went “bang” after Harry was born, despite having been very close in the weeks beforehand.
Diana claimed Charles had wanted a daughter rather than another son, and that she kept the results from the ultrasound pregnancy scans a secret over fear of letting him down.
These claims have never been confirmed, however.
Harry was born on September 15, 1984, and christened three months later in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
Angela Levin, author of ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’ wrote there was “almost no interaction” between Charles and Diana on the day.
Diana later said the joy of the big day was spoiled by Charles’ “alleged tactlessness”, according to Ms Levin.
The Princess told Mr Morton in 1991: “Charles went to talk to my mother at Harry’s christening and said: ‘We were so disappointed — we thought it would be a girl.’
“Mummy snapped his head off, saying: ‘You should realise how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.’
“Ever since that day the shutters have come down — and that’s what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”
A month before the christening, Charles gushed over his young son in a rare interview on American television.
He said he and Diana were “more relaxed” as parents with their second child, and are “therefore able to communicate an atmosphere of greater relaxation to the child”. He added Harry was “extraordinarily good, sleeps marvellously and eats very well”.
Diana claimed she knew Charles had “gone back” to Camilla by the time Harry burst into the world, and was delighted at his arrival, since it gave her a chance to be loved unconditionally again.
However, it is believed that Charles did not rekindle his romance with Camilla until 1986.
It is also alleged that Diana’s affair with army captain James Hewitt began at a similar time.
Charles and Diana formally split in December 1992, and divorced in August 1996 after the Queen ordered them to finalise an agreement in the aftermath of Diana’s infamous interview with Martin Bashir.
Harry’s son Archie was christened at Windsor, while it remains unclear where their daughter Lilibet Diana will have her christening.
