Prince Charles being told THIS WEEK if he will take over from the Queen

Prince Charles is set to be announced as the successor to a vital position held by the Queen this week, inside sources claim.

The Prince of Wales will reportedly take over the big role as Head of the Commonwealth when Her Maj dies as he prepares to become King.

A big meeting of 53 heads of Commonwealth states takes place at the Queen’s Windsor Castle home on Friday.

Here it will be decided who is the next Head – but as it is not hereditary questions have been asked over whether Charles will be handed the role.

And republican Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn recently added fuel by calling for him to be snubbed.

But it is now reported Charles – who is set to become a King in all but name when Her Maj turns 95 – will definitely be handed the role.

10 Downing Street signalled the decision is just a “formality” , The Sun reports, following a charm offensive from the UK Government supporting his candidacy.

A Government source said: “There are no flashing warnings lights on this. Everyone seems pretty content that it should be Prince Charles.”

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said in an initial strong endorsement last week: “The UK supports the Prince of Wales as the next Head of the Commonwealth.

“He has been a proud supporter of the Commonwealth for more than four decades and has spoken passionately about the organisation’s unique diversity.

“Succession is a matter for the Commonwealth as a whole to determine.”

If given the role, Charles – who is heir to the throne in 16 of the 53 Commonwealth member states – would eventually take over Queen Elizabeth, 91, who has been the symbolic head of the group of nations since 1952.

The role carries no formal functions, but has symbolic significance and helps to create strong diplomatic ties.
