The Duke of York has had the worst start possible to 2022. He has been ordered to face a civil trial in the US over allegations of sexual assault, which he vehemently denies. Andrew is alleged to have sexually assaulted Virginia Roberts Giuffre three times in 2001 when she was 17, though he claims he has no memory of ever meeting her. Ms Giuffre is an alleged sex tracking victim of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, with whom Andrew once shared a friendship.
Andrew was also stripped of his military titles and royal patronages, and will no longer use his HRH title in an official capacity.
On top of the recent news, a series of embarrassing anecdotes about his personality while growing up have been unearthed, including ones in which he reportedly demonstrated a sense of entitlement from a very young age.
Royal biographer Nigel Cawthorne wrote in the Daily Mail last week that Buckingham Palace staff had found Andrew a “handful” right “from the beginning”.
Mr Cawthorne is writing a new biography on the Duke of York, and spoke to a wide range of sources ahead of publication.
Unlike Charles and Anne, born before the Queen acceded the throne, Andrew was spoiled with “seven nurseries in four palaces, endless sumptuous treats and far more of his mother’s attention”.
Prince Philip furiously responded to Andrew’s ‘common people’ quip.

Andrew seemingly became all too aware of his privilege, as Mr Cawthorne made clear.
He wrote: “Once, he even annoyed his father — while the family were watching Bet Lynch get into an argument on Coronation Street.
“‘Oh God, look at all those common people,’ Andrew shouted.
“Prince Philip gave his favourite son a rocket. ‘If it wasn’t for people like that,’ he said, ‘you would not be sitting here.’”
Andrew, according to Mr Cawthorne, was nicknamed ‘Baby Grumpling’ by nanny Mabel Anderson, because of his “temper tantrums and obstinacy”.

Andrew earned an early reputation as a “bit of a bully” upon being sent to prep school Heatherdown, according to Mr Cawthorne, or as “a natural boss”, according to Philip.
After his 13th birthday, he followed in his father and older brother Prince Charles’ footsteps by going off to Gordonstoun.
Mr Cawthorne wrote: “The Heatherdown staff, it must be said, were not sorry to see him leave.”
At Gordonstoun, the Duke of York failed to excel academically, nor at sport, and was reportedly labelled ‘The Sniggerer’ by fellow pupils.

Andrew left Gordonstoun with A-Levels in English, History and Economics, before pursuing a career in the Royal Navy.
He was enrolled at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, and is believed to have irritated his colleagues on his very first day.
Mr Cawthorne claimed Andrew arrived in a new Ford Escort RS 2000, even though recruits were banned from having their cars on site.
He added: “Even the higher ranks were left somewhat underwhelmed.”

A senior officer once told royal author Andrew Morton: “Andrew is very likeable but he’s very conscious of being a royal. He’s a bit of a mummy’s boy.
“You could never say that about Charles. And [Charles] certainly wouldn’t talk about girl conquests.”
Andrew became something of a ladies’ man, and charmed a series of admirers in his bachelor days.
Yet the charm appeared solely reserved for his female admirers. One aide told Mr Cawthorne: “I’ve seen him treat his staff in a shocking, appalling way.
“He’s been incredibly rude to his personal protection officers, throwing things on the ground and demanding they ‘f***ing pick them up’.
“No social graces at all. Sure, if you’re a lady with blonde hair and big boobs, I bet he’s utterly charming.”
Upon his return from military service in the Falklands, Andrew met Sarah Ferguson. The pair began dating in 1986, and married the following year in a lavish ceremony.
Unfortunately, it was not to be, however, as they were divorced a decade later.
