‘The most terrible memory’ Photographer relives the fateful night Princess Diana died
Princess Diana died 20 years ago. This is the moment photographer present on the night of her death relived the experience.
Pierre Suu was with other photographers following Princess Diana the night she was killed as he described the event as “the most terrible memory of my career”.

Speaking to LBC, Pierre, who was working for the Sepa Agency on August 31st, 1997, recounted the night Diana died.
Mr Suu was outside the Ritz Hotel, where Diana and Dodi were dining before Diana was killed.
“It was exactly the same spot. They had dinner here on the first floor,” Mr Suu said.
“Supposedly, Dodi Fayed went to a shop. But we never saw him going. But that’s what we were told.
“It hasn’t changed much. The hotel has been refurbished but it is exactly how it was back 20 years ago.”

When asked by the reporter if Mr Suu thought he would be speaking about this moment 20 years later when he was waiting for Princess Diana, he replied: “Of course not.
“I wish I wasn’t here talking to you today to be honest.
“Nobody could ever imagine such a tragedy would happen, that we would be there covering the story.
“This is really a terrible memory, the most terrible memory of my career for sure.”
Princess Diana died from serious injuries after a terrible car crash in Paris at about 12.22am on August 31 1997.
Her then boyfriend Dodi Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, and her driver Henri Paul also died in the crash.

The paparazzi had tracked Princess Diana and Dodi from the Ritz in Paris where they were staying and had dinner that evening.
Diana’s death sparked an unprecedented national outpouring of grief in the United Kingdom.
