Footage of the royal box moments after Italy’s victory shows the royal looking over to the President.
It shows him appearing to be intercepted by another person before he has the chance to move over.
It is unknown if the pair talked off-camera or later that evening.
Prince William news: Reports held the royal left his seat before Italy’s ceremony and did not meet with Sergio Mattarella
The reported snub led some Italian fans to criticise William and Kate.
One said: “William and Kate leaving the stadium before the awards ceremony are ridiculous.”
But UEFA and Kensington Palace have both insisted the Duke stayed throughout.
A UEFA spokesperson told the Daily Mirror: “The trophy ceremony took place, as is usual the case during such presentations, in attendance of the UEFA President, UEFA General Secretary and the two Presidents of the participating national associations, namely The FA and FIGC.”
After the defeat to Italy, William took to the Kensington Palace Twitter to send his condolences to England.
He posted: “Heartbreaking. Congratulations Azzurri on a great victory.
“England, you’ve all come so far, but sadly this time it wasn’t our day.
“You can all hold your heads high, and be so proud of yourselves – I know there’s more to come.”
He said: “At the moment the players are, understandably, really quiet.
“The Duke (of Cambridge) has been down to see them in the dressing room and has rightly thanked them for what they’ve done and been fulsome in his praise.”
Speaking to the Sunrise TV show in Australia, he said: “With George, he got quite a lot of social media attention.
“Some were critical about him wearing a shirt and tie like his dad, which I thought was very harsh.
“He has been very popular, but I think they are going to try and keep him out of the limelight a little bit.
“They are very conscious of that. The pictures were great with his dad when he was celebrating for that all too brief moment.”
