Oprah Winfrey fury: Prince Harry violates ‘rules of Hollywood game’ by upstaging US icon

OPRAH WINFREY may feel snubbed after Prince Harry appeared on James Corden’s own television show, a Hollywood insider has claimed.

Ahead of the Sussexes’ tell-all interview, one Hollywood insider claimed Oprah may not take kindly to Harry airing potentially exclusive material before the bombshell chat. Writing on the matter, journalist and royal author Tina Brown, who lives in Santa Monica, claimed Harry had been ill-advised to appear on The Late Late Show and may have “dissed” the US icon. During the interview, Harry spoke of his treatment by the media and his decision to walk away as a senior member of the Royal Family – topics likely to be discussed with Oprah.

Due to this, Ms Brown claimed in The Spectator Harry may have violated the “rules of the game in Hollywood”.

Not only may he prompt disappointment from Oprah but there has also been “much consternation” about the timing of the interview with Mr Corden, she stated.

She wrote: “In Hollywood there’s been much consternation about how the timing of Harry’s larky bus trip stunt with James Corden once again dissed the Queen — not his grandma for a change, but America’s Queen, Oprah Winfrey.

“‘Who does that?’ went the text messages.

“Who gives an exclusive heart-to-heart to Oprah, then goes off before it’s aired and does a knockabout with Corden when Her Media Majesty’s much-touted scoop is still in the can?

“No doubt it was supposed to be ‘just fun’, but Corden was sly enough to slip in news-making questions that rained on Oprah’s parade.

“Harry and Meghan, it’s very clear, want to be all-conquering celebrities. But there are rules of the game in Hollywood — just as there are at Buckingham Palace.”

Although Harry may have violated the rules of Hollywood, Ms Brown did claim his interview with the fellow Brit had gone down well.

She insisted Harry had come across as funny and interesting while he and Meghan Markle continue their battle with the Palace.

In the second sneak peek of their interview, the Duchess of Sussex insisted she cannot be expected to be kept quiet over her experiences with the Firm.

Amid the pair’s row with the Palace, Meghan claimed she could not be silent over the falsehoods aimed at the pair.

After a question from the US TV host, Meghan said: “I don’t know how they could expect that, after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.”

Commenting on the consequences, Meghan claimed a lot had been lost already during their departure from the Firm.

Meghan added: “And, if that comes with risk of losing things, there is a lot that has been lost already.”

This comes after Buckingham Palace launched an investigation into claim the Duchess bullied staff.

The Duchess has previously denied all allegations over her treatment of staff.

According to The Times, the clashes had caused turmoil in the Palace although lawyers for the pair said the claims had been misleading.

A statement from the Palace said: “We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.

“Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned.

“The royal household has had a dignity at work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.”

A spokesman for the Duchess said: “The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
