Prince Harry told the BBC documentary ‘Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers’: “From my grandmother’s perspective, to have someone like that on your shoulder for 73 years of marriage – it doesn’t get better than that.

“The two of them together were just the most adorable couple, and I don’t know if anyone’s ever described them as adorable.

“But to me, knowing that the cheekiness of him and that behind what the world sees, you have two individuals who were very much in love, and at a very young age, dedicated their lives to service.

“The places these two travelled and the things that they saw, and the experiences that they went through, that is an incredible bond between two people.”

Prince Harry joined several other members of the Royal Family in paying tribute to the life and legacy of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

The BBC special documentary was originally intended to be a celebration of Prince Philip’s 100th birthday, which would have taken place on June 10.

Other family members to reminisce on their favourite memories of the Duke included Prince William, Prince Charles and Princess Anne.

Lady Louise Windsor, the eldest daughter of Prince Edward, also made a rare public appearance to commemorate her grandfather.

Prince Philip married the then-Princess Elizabeth on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey. The couple had become engaged in 1946, however, King George VI wished for them to wait until the Queen’s 21st birthday before announcing their engagement.

The two young royals had first met in 1939, after the Royal Family toured the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.

Prince Philip, a member of the Greek and Danish royal family, was tasked with escorting the young Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret around the base.

Shortly afterwards, the two began to exchange letters, and maintained their correspondence throughout Philip’s service in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.

After becoming Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, Prince Philip dedicated his life to public service, and frequently accompanied Her Majesty during official engagements and tours.

The couple welcomed four children together, and by the end of his life, Prince Philip was both a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather.

The Duke of Ediburgh passed away at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle, with the Queen reportedly at his bedside.

In line with his wishes for a ‘fuss-free’ funeral, the service was not a state occasion, and reflected his deep commitments to the British Armed Forces and the Royal Navy.

Members of the Royal Family, including Prince Harry, walked behind the hearse up to St George’s Chapel, where the Duke was laid to rest.
