MEGHAN Markle’s unpopular Christmas card photo with her second husband Prince Harry has been criticised for bearing a striking resemblance to her engagement snap with her first husband, Trevor Engelson.
The black and white image of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which shows them facing celebratory fireworks at Windsor’s Frogmore House in the immediate aftermath of their royal wedding in May, was heavily criticised not only because the royals had their backs to the camera but also because it was deemed unconventional compared to the Cambridges’ family card. But now, eagle-eyed royal fans have noticed the striking resemblance it has to the engagement photo Meghan, 37, posted on social media with her first husband, Mr Engelson. Both images are in black and white, showing Meghan with her arm around her husband and his around her and both show the couple with their backs to the camera. The only difference – besides Meghan’s choice of husband – is the first image shows the duchess and her ex-husband sitting on a beach.
Meghan is also positioned on the right hand side of both men.
The caption in the first image instructs followers to “save the date”, with the day of their wedding included underneath, the location being Jamaica and “trevor & meghan” on the foot of the post.
Social media users called it “spooky” that the “same idea” was used in both images.
One said: “The similarity between Meghan’s wedding invite with Trevor and the Christmas card with Harry is spooky……To do the same idea with each husband is so weird to say the least #royalchristmascards #MeghanMarkle.”
Criticism surrounding the poses comes after it was claimed Meghan stopped Prince Harry from attending the annual pheasant hunt out of respect for animals – despite him having attended the tradition for 20 years.
Prince Harry will miss the Royal Family’s Boxing Day pheasant shoot out of respect for Meghan Markle’s principles. The Duchess of Sussex is a renown animal lover and refuses to wear fur. She is also against bloodsports.
Meghan has expressed concern over Prince Harry killing “defenceless animals”.
A Royal source said: “He hardly ever misses the shoot but he loves her so much.”
The snub could widen the feud between Prince Harry and Prince William who have been locking horns recently. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are even moving out of Kensington Palace, which according to reports, is due to an ongoing feud between the Sussexes and the Cambridges.
