Meghan Markle was ‘shortlisted to play Daniel Craig’s next Bond girl but Suits actress’ royal romance with Prince Harry ruled her out’
MEGHAN Markle could have been the next Bond girl but her relationship with Prince Harry scuppered her chance, according to a report.
Meghan Markle was reportedly lined up to play Daniel Craig’s next Bond girl in the upcoming Bond 25 film.
Prince Harry’s now-fiancé is said to have been shortlisted for the coveted role last year, after she caught the eye of producers while playing Rachel Zane in Suits.
But it is claimed that the American actress’ blossoming relationship with the young royal ruled her out of the role.
007 producers had reportedly narrowed down the shortlist for the next Bond girl to just five actresses: Meghan along with four other hopefuls.
“The role more recently has gone to actresses deemed to be rising stars, and Meghan certainly was seen as that before her relationship with Harry became public”, said a film source.
“The brief was to find a glamorous rising star, specifically someone American or Canadian.
“Meghan fits the role of a Bond girl perfectly. She’s glamorous and sexy and a good actress”, the insider told The Sun.
Unfortunately for talented Meghan, as soon as her relationship with Prince Harry was revealed, she was automatically removed from the shortlist.
The source said: “The minute her relationship to Harry came to light they [the producers] assumed she was out of the running so it soon became a list of four.
“Her engagement effectively spelt an end to her acting career too so that was the final blow.”
The claim that Meghan was shortlisted for the role of a Bond girl follows her confirmation that she was giving up her acting career after quitting Suits as she prepares to marry Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed they were engaged on Monday 27th November.Speaking in their first TV interview since their engagement announcement, Meghan revealed she would not be returning to acting as a career for the time being.
Meghan didn’t see it as “giving something up” and confessed all about their future plans together.
